Five things for you to watch this weekend

/Tymon Smith

I HATE SUZIE — SHOWMAX Billie Piper brings her whirlwind, madcap charm to bear in this dissection of the absurdities of celebrity culture in the digital age. When comedian Suzie Pickles falls victim to a phone hacking that leads to compromising pictures leaked online, she and her best friend and manager must band together to fight the tabloids, the trolls and their own worst inclinations.

PROCESSION — NETFLIX Harrowing and difficult to watch, this experimental documentary made as a collaboration of several male victims of sexual abuse by US priests is a brave attempt to examine the ability of art to heal trauma. The film follows the survivors as they workshop re-enacted scenes that emphasise centuries-old rituals which reinforce skewed power relations in the Catholic Church that help to create an environment ripe for abuse and corruption. It is a powerful tribute to the courage of its subjects and a terrible indictment of the church and its futile attempts to cover up abuse or acknowledge the consequences for victims.

EL PRESIDENTE AMAZON PRIME VIDEO

Armando Bo, the Oscarwinning screenwriter of Birdman, turns his satirical eye to the Fifa corruption scandal in this drama series about one of its main players, Sergio Jadue, president of the Chilean Football Association. When the FBI came calling, Jadue and his family

found themselves at the centre of a different and unwanted kind of attention that would upend the soccer world.

ANNIKA — BRITBOX

Nicola Walker stars as the literary, intuitively talented detective inspector Annika Strandhed who arrives in Glasgow to head the new Marine Homicide Unit tasked with investigating mysteries arising out of the washing up of victims’ bodies on the Scottish coastline. Based on an awardwinning BBC Radio Four radio drama, this inventive adaptation is anchored by a charismatic central performance and a strong sense of place.

DOMINA SHOWMAX

The canvas of ancient Rome is here exploited to hot and steamy effect in this titillating feminist-centred tale of the rise to power of Livia Drusilla, a girl who comes of age in the shadow of Julius Caesar’s assassination, becomes the wife of Emperor Augustus and wields influence as the most powerful woman in the empire.
